Seed Collection: Subiaco Creek
A recent project at Subiaco Creek (Parramatta) involved seed collection and propagation of 6000 plants.
This site has a long history of woody weed and vine infestation which has reduced native diversity and density very significantly across the site.
As very little native seed was available from the site, our experienced nursery staff were able to access the native plant community of Subiaco Creek and collect seed from species that would have most likely inhabited the area before it was degraded.
Seed was collected from adjoining sites within the Parramatta City Council area-most often along the same creek line system so as to represent (as closely as possible) the original genetic variability.
Collected seed was then cleaned, stored and prepared for the revegetation project.
